"In recognition of distinguished services in the Middle East (including Egypt, East Africa, The Western Desert, the Sudan, Greece, Crete, Syria and Tobruk) during the period February 1941 to July 1941"
"At H.3 Pumping Station Iraq and subsequently near Iraq-T.J. Frontier. This NCO showed great coolness and determination at H.3 whilst under fire near frontier in the face of armed police nad tribesmen. It was entirely due to his coolness and presence of mind that his C.O. who had been wounded and was suffering from loss of blood was able to escape to Transjordan".

Scarce Sub-mariners Special Ops medal group.
KILLED IN ACTION.
Group is for an Edmund George Hunt ERA 4th Class. He served and died on HMS Submarine P 311. This submarine was fitted with a container on its hull to enable two midget submarines to be carried. In 1942 she was ordered, with two other submarines based in Malta, to embark chariots to carry out attacks on Italian warships. She was never heard from again and it is believed that she was mined when attempting to pass through the straights of Boinfacis. Medals consists of,

A most important Military Cross and Gallantry group to Major Leslie Callf - 9 Commando (formerly Royal West Kents).
Callf was one of those great all action heroes often seen on TV and in films. The citations for his military cross and bar show the measure of the man.

Private Edward Pinkney, 2nd Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment was originally from Balby in Doncaster. He was killed in action (aged 32) on the 9th June 1942 in the unsuccessful British attempt to bring help to the Free French who were surrounded at Bir Hacheim. He was buried at Halfaya-Sollum War Cemetery, Libya.
From extracts from the 2nd Btn. war diaries (5th-30th June 1942) we can determin that he was one of eight killed on the 9th, with a further five wounded. This was due to two ammunition trucks exploding presumably having been fired upon/ bomed.
