Died - 6th December 1944
2nd Officer Mackenzie was fatally injured after being knocked down by a stolen U.S. Army jeep. Mackenzie and his shipmates were walking along Herbert Walker Avenue to their ship. Suddenly a member of the party shouted to warn that a jeep was coming up behind them and the whole party crossed from the left to the right hand side of the road. A witness stated that he saw Mackenzie thrown into the air in front of the jeep. He later died of his injuries. Due to the speed the jeep was going none of the witnesses could identify the driver or how many people were in the vehicle.
The medals are in good condition and are mounted on card for display.
