RHS Report:
Sergeant Albert Worsfold, 34th F.B., R.A.
'At great personal risk, rescued H. Donnelly from drowning in the Ganges Canal, Meerut, India, 19th November, 1896'

M.I.D. - London Gazette 4th January 1917
M.S.M. - London Gazette 1st January 1918

Albert Worsfold was born in Wandsworth in 1864. He enlistedin the RFA in October 1884 and promoted Bombadier - 19th Oct 1886, Sergeant - 9th November 1892 and then Battery Sergeant Major - 11th April 1899. He was discharged from 29th Bty on 14th May 1912, aged 48.

In a letter dated 12th February 1915 to Woolwich, he complains that he is not being allowed to re-enlist due to him being over 50 years old and goes on to ask that he be considered due to his previous service. A subsequent letter from his C/O states that Worsfold was currently only serving at "home", but is very keen to be allowed to proceed with the Battery abroad. He states that he considers Worsfold more capable of carrying out his duties than a younger soldier.

He then re-enlisted with a new number (11278) in March 1915, promoted to R.S.M. in November 1915 with 152nd Bty and landed in France on 8th January 1916, where he served until August 1919.

Comes with a photograph of Albert Worsfold in uniform and a quantity of research.
