Jessop originally served as a 2nd Lieut with the 8th Bn. Yorkshire Regt. He was appointed Temporary Captain on 29/07/1915. In March 1916 he was transferred to General List for duty on Observation Posts before transferring to the Royal Engineers later that year. Jessop relinquished commission on completion of service 01/09/1921 and retained the rank of Major. In 1940 he served with the Royal Artillery as a Lieutnant.
