Class ‘B’ Mention In Despatches, 27 March 1919

'For valuable service rendered in connection with the War'

Adolphus Egbirt Vincent Huxtable was born on 1 February 1871 and enlisted in the 20th Hussars on 20 August 1889.  He advanced steadily through the ranks, becoming Squadron Sergeant Major (Rough Rider) in the regiment on 7 September 1897.  Huxtable did not participate in any campaigns while serving in the ranks.  He was stationed at home with the regimental depot when the 20th Hussars deployed to South Africa in 1901 and was on the Cavalry Depot Staff when commissioned as Riding Master in the 7th Dragoon Guards on 17 June 1903.  Huxtable was an accomplished equestrian and won numerous riding competitions, including events at the Royal Naval & Military Tournament.  He commanded the 7th Dragoon Guards Depot in India during World War I and his Medal Index Card confirms the BWM and GSM pair as his complete medal entitlement.  He retired in 1922.

Comes with original photographs, original Warrant for his appointment to Riding Master, copied references from the regimental journals, and an article from the Medal News which includes a summary of Huxtable’s career.

A rare and unusual pair. Medals named to Riding Masters are not often seen on the market.
