Official Recommendation:
“Somme, 1916. – For conspicuous gallantry in the Auchonvillers sector on August 17th. Whilst his battery was being acccurately and consistently bombarded with 21cm shells the men were ordered to clear to a flank for protection. Driver Henny was leaving his dug-out for this purpose when one of his comrades was buried in the trench being blown in. Driver Henny at once stopped and started digging him out unaided. He was indefatigable in his efforts, the whole time under shell fire, unitl the man was finally dug out. By his prompt action he undoubtedly saved his comrade from suffocation.”
