Arthur Ernest Rayner was the eldest of seven children of Dr Alexander Clement Rayner. One of his siblings was the well known suffragette, Edith Rigby. He graduated from Owen’s College, Manchester, M.B., Ch.B. with honours in 1899 and proceeded M.D. (with commendation) in 1909. He practiced at Preston Royal Infirmary for over 40 years and was a pioneer in radiology. Rayner joined the R.A.M.C. in the first world war and saw much service in the Middle East.
The groups comes with a book written by his daughter, Phoebe Hesketh, about her life which includes accounts of her father and his war service. Also comes with copy research.
The medals are in good condition and are swing mounted for wear. They are housed in a Spink & Son box with his initials ‘A.E.R.’ embossed on the lid.
