Germany WW2 German Cross In Gold With Case (C.F. Zimmermann)

A cased German Second World War Cross in gold. This is a good original example of a veteran bring back German Third Reich WW2 cased War Order of the German Cross in gold.

The Cross is maker marked No. “20” for the firm of C.F. Zimmermann, of Pforzheim.  The Cross has a nice black enamelled swastika to the centre, which has only very minor scratches to it. The gold wreath has toned over the years and the red enamel, which is under the gold wreath, is in good condition with no chips or dings. The silver circular plate, again has aged over the years as you would expect, but nothing too much. The black rayed star retains approximately 90+% of its original oxidised finish and is overlaid on the silver star. The quality and construction is superb. To the reverse is a working pin, hinge and hook, with the hinge and hook plate countersunk into the base and the pin is marked No. 20 to the underside. The star is contained in its original black leatherette case, with a gold line around the lid, opened by a press stud which is of magnetic material and hinged, again with a magnetic hinge. There is a black base with a white silk under lid. This has suffered some minor staining, but just what you would expect of an award and case over 80 odd years old.
