In 2014 The Royal Mint marked the centenary of the
outbreak of the First World War with this £20 coin forming part of a major
series of commemorative coins that will take a journey from outbreak to
armistice. Struck in fine silver it features the enduring national symbol of
Britannia, watching over the first ships taking troops to France as they answer
the nation’s call on the eve of war. This is an official United Kingdom coin,
carrying the current portrait of Her Majesty The Queen on its obverse.
