An original US Vietnam War medal Group, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Purple Heart, awarded to SP4 Peter R Perez who served as a door gunner in D Troop of the 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry part of the 25th Infantry Division.

The award of the Distinguished Flying Cross was recorded in the Tropic Lightning News on 8th September 1969 – SP4 Peter R Perez D Trp 3rd Sqdn 4th Cav – awarded DFC.
Peter served as a door gunner on a light observation attack helicopter in 1969 with 1st Lieutenant John Evans.
John Evans was the Scout Pilot on light observation helicopter ‘Iron Butterfly’. On one occasion, John hovered over the body of a VC soldier and Peter jumped out and recovered an enemy AK47.
