USSR Medal for Courage awarded to Senior Sergeant Adil Abdullah Yusopov.
The medal is numbered 190018 on the reverse. It was awarded to Senior Sergeant Adil Abdullah Yuspov on the 19th September 1942 for his actions on 7th September 1942 at the city of Modzok (south of Stalingrad in Caucasus area).
Yusopov was born in 1912 in Azerbaijan and drafted into the Red Army in November 1941, serving as a submachine gunner with the Motorised Infantry Battalion, 52nd Seperate Tank Brigade.
He was originally proposed for the Order of the Red Star but was awarded the Medal for Courage instead;
“Comrade Yusopov, acting as a part of his company as a submachine gunner, 7/IX when the attack on the town of Mozdok, he proved to be a fearless fighter. On the front line of defence, he threw grenades at Fascist submachine gunners, who were in their trenches. He first broke into the enemy trench, and in the melee destroyed from his submachine gun – six Nazis soldiers.”
Yusopov served in the Red Army until 1943.
