Description

A first world war and ISM medal group of three awarded to G/14872 Private William Percival Davey, 10th Battalion, East Kent Regiment, who was accidentally wounded when he was shot in his right shoulder during a gun demonstration.

The medals are in good condition.

William Percival Davey was from Bristol and enlisted on 14th November 1917.

On the 22nd October 1918 Private Davey received a gun shot wound to his right shoulder during a gun demonstration by Sergeant Upton. According to statements regarding the incident, Sgt. Upton was giving a lecture on the Lewis Gun. There were no dummy cartridges available so he used a live cartridge instead to demonstrate. When the bolt was pushed gently forward, the round fired and hit Pte. Davey in the shoulder.
