A first world war MM group of five awarded to 265575 Corporal Ernest Frances Shaw, 1/6th Seaforth Highlanders. Later tried by Field General Court Martial when on active service.

London Gazette: 7th October 1918 (M.M.) 

Ernest Frances Shaw enlisted into the Seaforth Highlanders 8/9/14 and was posted to the 6th Battalion. 

He was awarded the Military Medal in 1918, probably for the German Offensive in March of that year. His MM was gazetted 7/10/18. 

On the 14/8/18 he was tried by Field General Court Martial on the charge ‘when on Active Service conduct to the prejudice of good order & military discipline’. On his Company being ordered to fall in he said “Do not do it men, I’m not going to”, or words to that effect. He was found guilty, was reduced to the ranks and kept in confinement for 15 days. 

Back with the 6th Battalion, Private Shaw was then wounded in action on 27/8/18, receiving a gun shot wound to his right thigh. 

The medals are in good condition.
