Edward Ellis enlisted in the Coldstream Guards between 1936-38 (Coldstream Guards Enlistment Register – Nominal Roll 1936-38). He saw active service with the 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards as part of the BEF in France 1939-40 campaign. He was a veteran of the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940. He saw further service with 5th Battalion, Coldstream Guards as part of the Guards Armoured Division in the North West Europe 1944-45 campaign. Discharged from the army on 04/04/1946. Relegated to section ‘B’ regular army reserve. Re-joined the Colours on 20/05/1948. Served in the Malayan Emergency from 1948 to 1950 with the 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. Discharged as medically unfit from the army on 06/07/1951.
