Description

A second world war casualty group to Purser Oscar David Gwynn Thomas, M.V. William Wilberforce (Liverpool), Merchant Navy.

1939-45 Star unnamed as issued
Atlantic Star unnamed as issued
War Medal 1939-45 unnamed as issued

Killed In Action – 9th January 1943 (Tower Hill Memorial)

Comes with original box of issue and condolence slip. The condolence slip has been written on with blue biro giving details of Oscar David Gwynn Thomas. I assume this was done by a family member.

Thomas was a Purser onboard the M.V. William Wilberforce when it was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-511. He was one of three crew members to be killed. The other 60 crew members survived and were picked up by the Spanish motor merchant Monte Arnabal.

The medals are in good condition. Please see photos.
