A first world war possible first day of the Somme casualty medal group awarded to 17737 Private Albert Edward Lewin, 10th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, who was sadly killed in action between the 1st and 3rd July 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. Remembered at Thiepval Memorial.

Albert Edward Lewin was born in Spendon, Derby. He lived in Castleford and enlisted at Pontefract.
He is listed in the 10th Battalion war diary as being killed in action during the fighting 1/7/1916 - 3/7/1916. His MIC and medal roll entry state that he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 but CWGC list him as killed on the 3rd July 1916.
The medals are in good condition.
