A first world war Battle of Auber's Ridge casualty medal group awarded to Lieutenant Alfred Clulow Fitzgerald Garnett-Botfield, 1st Battalion South Wales Borderers, who was killed in action on 09/05/1915 and is remembered at Le Touret Memorial.

Alfred Garnett-Botfield was born on 16/6/1892. He was educated at Eton College and the Trinity College, Cambridge. Volunteering on the first day of the war, he initially served as a Second Lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade, making his way to the Western Front in November 1914. Shortly after arriving in France, he was appointed Lieutenant in the 1st Battalio, South Wales Borderers.
He took part in the fighting at Festubert, Givenchy, La Bassee and Neuve Chapelle, where he escaped unwounded despite his clothes being pierced with bullets, but was killed in action at Richebourg L'Avoue on 9/5/1915 during an advance across no man's land towards the German trenches.
His company Officer, Captain A.C. Lloyd recommended him for his gallant conduct.
The medals are in good condition ans come with original boxes of issue.
Also entitled to the Victory Medal which is not present.
