The recommendation states:
'For tireless patience and self-sacrificing zeal as Master at Arms of an establishment comprising 700-800 ratings over half of whom are Dutch, French or Polish. That all these ratings have worked amicably together, is due to the inexhaustible patience, common sense and tact of Master at Arms Bicknell.'
Frederick Bicknell was serving aboard HMS Ambrose, a submarine depot ship, at the time of being gazetted for his BEM, which awarded he received at an investiture on 13th October 1942.
