Comes with his original Continuous Certificate of Discharge book and his National Registration Identity Card.
Dale was serving on board M.V. Vancouver City from 24/09/38 until it was sunk by a German U-boat on 14/09/39.
At 10.00 hours on 14/09/39 the unarmed Vancouver City was hit by one torpedo from U-28 while steaming on a zigzag course at 13 knots about 75 miles west-soutwest of Milford Haven. The torpedo struck on the starboard side at #4 bulkhead between the engine room and #4 hold and killed the 2nd Engineer, who was hit by a davit from the destryed starboard lifeboat. Most of the crew members abandoned ship in the port lifeboat after distress signals had been sent and acknowledged by Land's End. The ship sank 13 minutes after being hit. Of the 33 on board, there were 3 dead and 30 survivors.
The medals are in good condition and are mounted on card for display.
