A second world war casualty medal group awarded to Warrant Supply Officer Herbert Douglas Honey, Royal Navy, who sadly died on 14/12/1942, a month after HMS Hecla was sunk.

Also with a Hallmarked 9ct Gold and Enamel Football Medal reverse engraved H.M.S. "Dragon" Winners Governors Cup 1931-32 H. Honey. The medal weighs approx. 11.3 grams.
Comes with original condolence slip, box of issue and sympathy letter.
Died - 14th December 1942, HMS Hecla
Herbert Douglas Honey was serving on HMS Hecla when she was sunk by a U-Boat west of Ginraltar on 12th November 1942, after taking part in the North African landings, 13 officers and 266 ratings were lost but Honey survived.
HMS Marne attempted to rescue the survivors but was hit by two torpedoes and badly damaged. They were eventually picked up by HMS Venomous and landed at Casablanca. Honey died just a month later on 14th December 1942, probably of wounds or exposure.
