Recommendation for DFC:
17th July 1944
Londin Gazette - 6th October 1944
This officer has now left this Squadron and has been posted to 618 Squadron. Whilst with this Squadron he completed his first operational tour having carried out 144 operational hours in 19 months.
He was unfortunate in that he was in hospital for some time whilst with this Squadron. He displayed courage and devotion to duty at all times, and volunteered to be posted to 618 Squadron without going on a rest.
Whilst with this Squadron he took part in a strike of six aircraft on an enemy convoy in Den Helder harbour. The formation was attacked by enemy fighters and flew through intense and accurate flak; of the six aircraft, four returned to base. He is an above average officer and sets a very good example to his brother aircrew. I have no hesitation in recommending him for a non-immdiate award of the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Maddocks was awarded the King's Commendation for Valuable Services in the Air - London Gazette; 1st January 1949. It is believed that this was awarded for his work as a test pilot.

The group comes with the original certificate for the King's Commendation, 5 Pilot's Flying Log Books, Buckingham Palace letter for his DFC, Pilot's Notes for the Beaufighter TT 10 and a quantity of copy research. Please see photos.

The medals are in good condition and are swing mounted for wear.
