A first world war father and son medal group to the Rowney family from Belfast. The son was brutally murdered at the age of 63 whilst on duty as a nightwatchman.

The medals are in good condition with ribbons.

General Service Medal (Clasps - Iraq, N.W. Persia) named to 40196 Cpl. S. Rowney. R. Ir. Fus.

Samuel Rowney was murdered at the age of 63 whilst working as a nightwatchman at Asia House, Princes Street, Manchester, which was a packing and shipping warehouse at the time.

The group comes with copies of newspaper articles relating to his death and the trial of the man who murdered him. Rowney was struck on the head with an iron bar and pushed down a lift shaft during a robbery.

The medals are in good condition with ribbons.
