An interesting Royal Navy medal group of three Awarded to Chief Petty Officer Frank Alexander Newing, who drowned as a Result of the capsizing of a ships cutter in a blizzard on the 28th March 1916.
East and West Africa Medal (Clasp - Benin 1897) named to F. Newing, A.B., H.M.S. Theseus.
WW1 Victory Medal named to 152242 F.A. Newing. C.P.O. R.N.
George V Royal Naval Long Service & Good Conduct Medal named to 152242 F.A. Newing, C.P.O. H.M.S. Pembroke:
Also entitled to a star and war medal.
Frank Alexander Newing was born on 6th November 1874 in Dover, Kent. His occupation at the time of enlistment in the Royal Navy was rope maker.
He first served with the Royal Navy in 1893 with his first posting to HMS St Vincent. Newing was one of 38 men lost of HMS Conquest during a snowstorm off of Harwich on 28th March 1916, when they were returning to the ship from shore leave.
