A scarce second world war evacuation from Dunkirk Operation Dynamo Naval Beach Party single DSM awarded to JX.133241 Signaller Joseph Mulheron, Royal Navy, who was one of a small number of men from the Naval Beach Party to be recommended for 'conspicuous devotion to duty under fire' for his work under Rear Admiral Wake-Walker, who had command ashore of the evacuation.

'The ratings employed ashore on the coast, and in Dunkirk were subjected to a considerable ordeal.
The following (21 names) are selected from the large number employed, for conspicuous devotion to duty under fire.'
Signalman Mulheron is listed at No. 2 in the order of merit.
It is most likely that Mulheron was one of those small number of men who manned the shore signal stations in Dunkirk.
The medal has a minor edge knock at around 3 o'clock but is otherwise in good condition.
