A Boer war and first world war casualty medal group awarded to 3/8143 Serjeant James Watson, 7th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment (formerly 5071 Pte./Cpl. Devonshire Regiment), who was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme and is remembered at Dive Copse British Cemetery, Sailly-le-Sec.

Killed in Action - 1st July 1916

James Watson was from Farnworth, Lancashire. He first enlisted into the Devonshire Regiment in July 1898 and served with the 2nd Bn during the Boer War. After being discharged, Watson returned to service with the Bedfordshire Regiment as a Sergeant and first went out to France on 26/7/15. He was sadly, killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. 

The QSA and KSA are swing mounted together and show signs of wear with ribbons becoming frayed and the medals have some contact scratches and surface wear. The WW1 trio are in good condition with original ribbons and the plaque is in good condition with the original card box and envelope.
