A Boer War QSA medal awarded to 2906 Private George Edward Leach, 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade, who was convicted by Field General Court Martial to 56 days field imprisonment for stealing from comrades during the defence of Ladysmith.

The medal is in good condition.
George Edward Leach was born in Richmond, London. He saw service on the Nile Expedition, at Khartoum and in Crete during the 1898 rebellion.
Leach was posted to South Africa in October 1899 and was present during the Defence of Ladysmith and in action at Belfast and Laing's Nek. It was whilst engaged in the Defence of Ladysmith that Leach was sentenced by Field General Court Martial held on 22nd Fenruary 1900 to suffer 56 days Field Imprisonment No.1 for having stolen kit and other items from his fellow servicemen, though 42 days of his sentence were subsequently remitted. Leach returned to to duty on 8th March 1900.
