A rare survivor from the Boer War: this is an original Victorian Christmas Gift Tin, complete with its original chocolate.
Commissioned by Queen Victoria as a personal gift to soldiers during Christmas 1900, these tins were filled with chocolate supplied by renowned British manufacturers Rowntree, Cadbury, and Fry. Though all three companies were Quaker-owned and traditionally pacifist, they agreed to support the initiative as a mark of respect for the Queen—on the condition that their names did not appear on the tins themselves.
This example features the classic embossed tin with royal crest and retains its original Rowntree-manufactured chocolate. While the chocolate wrapping has deteriorated with age, the chocolate bar itself remains intact. Please see pictures for full condition.
